The Need For This Explanation
During worship, a pastor asked the members, “Between grace and law, which one is now still relevant?” Many said it is grace, while very few said it is the law. You should know that all discussions saying that the law is no longer relevant are nothing but the deception of Satan. For all the laws of life are spiritual laws, which are always applicable, relevant, unavoidable and everlasting. Every activity of man is governed by a set of natural laws, which are impartial, universal and perfect. For the laws are God’s will in creation. These laws are immutable – unchanging.
It is indeed disappointing that many still claim that Old Testament laws are no longer relevant, despite the warning from Jesus that, “17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the law, or the prophets: I am not come to abolish, but to fulfil them. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.”
Speaking further, he said “20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you shall in not enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
What did Jesus mean by saying that your righteousness must exceed that of the scribes and Pharisees? He said this because the scribes and Pharisees were pretending to be keeping the laws of given to the world through Moses. They were speaking it, teaching it, carrying the scriptures about, and often quoting the holy book, but were not keeping the commandments as God directed. Thereby, they made themselves hypocrites. Jesus therefore warned Christians not to be bearers and hearers of the word only, but that Christians should be the bearers and hearers of the scriptures, as well be the doers. Every church or reverend ministers who does not practise and teach the old testament laws of God is a hypocrite.
Learn from what Jesus (New Testament) and Abraham (Old Testament) said about salvation:
27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, No, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And Abraham said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets (Old Testament), neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead. Luke 16:27-31
The Things You Should Know About The Law And Grace
You should bear the following in mind:
- Both work together. Those who strive to live righteous life (who keep the laws) shall receive the grace of perfection, but those who do not shall be condemned to hell fire.
- Each leads to the other. Out of grace, God came down to give the law, which guides humanity in all righteousness unto perfection.
- Each compliments the other, just as the left and right hands work together.
- Both lead to Blessings by obedience, or to curses by disobedience.
- Law is the foundation of blessings and grace.
- Lawlessness denies a person the right to blessings and grace.
